Joe Panik scurried around second and headed for third. Ron Wotus, from the coach’s box, waved his arms to motion Panik to the plate with the tie-breaking run.

The Giants were about to take their first lead since Monday on Gorkys Hernandez’s double.

Panik never made it home. He hobbled into third and went directly into the Giants’ clubhouse with a strained left groin, the latest injury in a rough year for the second baseman.

The Giants pulled out a 3-2 victory over St. Louis, snapping a four-game losing streak, and now must figure out the extent of Panik’s injury and what to do in his absence, whatever the length. …continue reading here…
