LOS ANGELES — For the second time in the series, Buster Posey started the game on the bench. Posey has had back and hip issues, but manager Bruce Bochy would not cite any specific ailment, saying generally the catcher is beat up.
“He needs a break,” Bochy said. “We’ve been grinding him pretty hard. Sometimes one day off is not enough. He’s feeling the effects of that.”
By resting Posey on Friday night and Sunday, Bochy showed he has no interest in making Posey an iron man, which is harder for a catcher to be in an era of three-hour games and — to be honest — heightened drug testing.
Posey has started 46 games behind the plate, which ranked 11th among big-league catchers through Saturday. …continue reading here…
